Urodzona w 1977 roku artystka wizualna związana z Górnym Śląskiem i Warszawą. Ukończyła rzeźbę na wrocławskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych, gdzie w 2006 roku prowadziła Pracownię Gościnną. Studiowała także w Instytucie Sztuki w Opolu oraz na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.

Debiutowała w 2002 roku projektem “Reallaura”, który używając telefonii komórkowej, dowcipnie komentował zmiany zachodzące w społeczeństwie informacyjnym. Pawela zajmuje się instalacją, video-artem, tworzy obiekty, rzeźby, fotografie. Wystawiała w Polsce i za granicą, prezentując prace na około dziewięćdziesięciu wystawach. Swoje projekty realizowala min. we Francji (“Bathroom”/2005), Argentynie (“Unfinished Histories”/2008), na Śląsku (“Untitled/Friedrich”/2008), w Finlandii (“Musicam Video”/2010-11) oraz ostatnio w Nowym Jorku i Utopii (“Bloodbuzz Ohio”/2011) oraz w Teksasie (”Pink Horizon”, 2014). Jej prace znajdują się w kolekcjach prywatnych i państwowych, polskich i zagranicznych min. w Muzeum Współczesnym we Wrocławiu, w MOCAKu w Krakowie, w zbiorach galerii Arsenał Białystok, Bunkier Sztuki i innych. Jest laureatką wielu wyróżnień oraz stypendiów (Nagroda artystyczna Marszałka Województwa Śląskiego, 7 Konkurs Gepperta, stypendium Młoda Polska, stypendium Visegrad Fund), była nominowana do Paszportów Polityki w 2004 roku, jej twórczość prezentowana była także na łamach wielu katalogów i wydawnictw (min. “Nowe Zjawiska w Sztuce Polskiej po 2000, “Tekstylia Bis”).

Laura Pawela poza działalnością w obrębie sztuki wizualnej zajmuje się kreatywnym montażem filmowym (ostatnio nagradzanego filmu “Ucieczka na Srebrny Glob” Kuby Mikurdy). Od 2019 roku jest doktorantką Szkoły Doktorskiej na łódzkiej filmówce, gdzie prowadzi zajęcia z video artu oraz Multimedia.

Polish visual artist born in 1977, associated with Upper Silesia and Warsaw.
She graduated from the sculpture at the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, where she led the Open Studio. She also studied at the Art Institute in Opole and the University of Warsaw (Marketing in Culture).
She made her debut in 2002 – project “Reallaura”, that using mobile wittily commented on the changes in the information society.
Laura Pawela is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is driven by the concept of the imagination as a filter for reality. Her diverse practice includes video, sculpture, drawing, installation, and other time-based works.

Pawela’s practice deals with a myriad of themes, often associated with the exploration of the artist’s identity and functioning, the impact of personal history on the creative process. It also deals with topics such as utopian ideas, the influence of politics on artistic activity or the functioning of the mechanisms of oppression. Her works also deal with multiple realities suggested by the characterisation of contemporary society as an Information Age, and the interaction of the fictional, the virtual and physical.
Pawela exhibited in Poland and abroad, presented her work at about ninety exhibitions. Their projects were realized f.e. in France (“Bathroom” / 2005), Argentina (“Unfinished Histories” / 2008), Upper Silesia (“Untitled / Friedrich” / 2008), Finland (“Musicam Video” / 2010-11) and most recently in the United States (“Bloodbuzz Ohio”/ 2011).
Her works are in private and public collections, both Polish and foreign (Museum of Contemporary Arts/Wroclaw, Arsenal/Bialystok, Bunkier Sztuki and others)
She has won many awards and scholarships (6th Competition of Polish Paintings/Wroclaw, “Young Poland” scholarship, Visegrad Fund Scholarship), was nominated for Polityka’s Passport in 2004, her works were also presented in many catalogs and publications.

Laura Pawela, apart from her activities in the field of visual art, is also involved in creative film editing (the recently awarded film “Escape to the Silver Globe” by Kuba Mikurda). Since 2019, she has been a PhD student at the Doctoral School at the Film School in Łódź, where she conducts Multimedia and Video Art classes.
